Get More Renters. Work Less.

I want to take my own vacation rental photos. Do you have any tips you can provide?

I don't have the budget to hire a professional photographer and I really want to practice my photography skills.

Taking photographs to sell a product is not an "A for effort" situation. Your home is your business and you want to make your home look good. Photographs are crucial for that, but taking the photos yourself is not. We recommend you hire a professional photographer if you're lacking the equipment or knowledge to take excellent photos of your home. After all, it's the first impression a traveler will have of your rental.
That said, if you choose to do it yourself, be sure to pick a day when the weather outside is flattering. When you shoot the exterior, make sure the sun is hitting it in a flattering way; the best time is a few minutes after sundown (called "The Magic Hour"), which diffuses harsh sunlight while keeping everything bright and reducing unappealing shadows.
When shooting indoors, be sure to prep your home so it looks nice, but don't hold back: shoot every room clearly. Upload as many photos as you feel you need to adequately represent your home; we recommend at least 20 as a good average.
