Suspicious emails and phishing scams are common in the rental business. Scammers will often ask to send you a cashier's check or money order for down payment of rent, and the amount will be for more than the cost of the down payment. They may also ask for your personal information while posing as a prospective renter. If you recieved an email that feels suspicious to you, you can forward the email to your email provider's fraud department and block the sender in your contact list.
